Stitching The Gaps
Not everyone who wants to dabble with electronics knows about the hardware and coding needed for a project. Perhaps your'e more of an ideas person and hit a wall when it gets to the technical stuff? Lack of knowledge should never prevent you from attempting something beyond your scope of skills. This is why we love Arduino so much, it's not only open source, but beginners and designers have also been kept in mind. Much of the documentation that you'll stumble accross when searching for Arduino resources (and believe me there's bundles), will more than likely include a really good introduction to electronics, microcontrollers and coding in general. Lets take a look at one particular example, which also brings up another topic... Fashion and Technology
A good place to spend time is the Arduino blogs, where you'll be able to keep updated with with new developments, projects, and general news. A while back i stumbled accross this real gem, a link to Open Softwear - a book about Arduino's, fashion and technology. This freely dowanloadable book is an absolute must read for anyone who is keen to start working with development boards, as it even gives a good grounding to the flow of electricity and how how components work.
This book will have even more value to someone who wants to tinker with wearable electronics. I'll take this moment to introduce
a very special Arduino board - the Lilypad.
Designed and developed by Leah Buechley and SparkFun Electronics, the Lilypad was made to be used by fashion designers and people who want to use fabric instead of PCB and thread rather than solder. Featuring sewable contacts, you can literally stitch your project together with conductive thread.
We are currently carrying a broad range of sensors and components that are designed for the lilypad, so be sure to look out for lilypad product in each of our categories
Lilypad Products:
- Lilypad Main Board
- LilyPad Button Board
- LilyPad Buzzer
- LilyPad Bright White LED
- LilyPad Slide Switch
- LilyPad Tri-Color LED
- LilyPad Power Supply
- LilyPad Light Sensor
- LilyPad XBee
- Conductive Thread per meter
